Shera's work brings the viewer to the place where imagination interfaces with nature, going to places unexpected and familiar, with a playful twist because risk-taking can be as exciting on canvas as it is in the real world!
Having beautiful art in our environment is good for us. Art nourishes the human spirit, lifts us from the ordinary and mundane into a state of heightened experience, and can change us over time. Visual art delivers healing through images we recognize from the collective unconscious.
Born in Texas, attended Paris High School, Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Notre Dame, later studied medical illustration at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. After 19 years of designing in 3 dimensions for a multi-national jewelry & accessory design company, Shera could no longer contain her energy & excitement for expressing her own unique interpretation & love of the natural world with its endless arrangement of organic forms. Shera began in charcoals & then burst into color with oils, her medium of choice. Shera lives & works in Taos, New Mexico, within less than a mile of her favorite subject & muse, the Rio Grande.
"It’s my hope that my work can convey the excitement & depth of feeling I experience in the outdoor world & in my contemplation of all its elements. Once I begin a piece, I like to let it direct its own course & I stay with it until it tells me it is finished.
